The chaotic love relationship JEM is known for writing， is certainly present in the pages of The Brit。 Danny Black， the British "adopted" son of a mafia warlord in Miami， inherits his father's world。 He's known brutality， violence and vengeance his entire life。 Enter Rose， also brought up in a world that is anything but the suburban white picket fence， and no stranger to abuse， sex trafficking and prostituting herself for protection。 The two are thrown together by a series of events which would The chaotic love relationship JEM is known for writing， is certainly present in the pages of The Brit。 Danny Black， the British "adopted" son of a mafia warlord in Miami， inherits his father's world。 He's known brutality， violence and vengeance his entire life。 Enter Rose， also brought up in a world that is anything but the suburban white picket fence， and no stranger to abuse， sex trafficking and prostituting herself for protection。 The two are thrown together by a series of events which would cause a spoiler alert， so I'll gloss past them。 While mafia romance is usually not my preferred sub-genre， I will stray into this world when one of my favorite authors writes a story in this setting。 Be prepared for violence and gore， admittedly not something I expected， or desired， in a JEM story。 （ I purposely don't watch mafia violence type movies either。） Reading this type of brutal vengeance brings out the anxiety in me， but the writing compelled me to continue， because somewhere， somehow， there had to be redeeming qualities in Danny's attraction to Rose。 JEM is at her best in including sub-characters who will later play out in more than one surprise in the story。 （a la Ava's interior decorating client in This Man。） The author in me， loves the "plotter writing style" in author Jodi Ellen Malpas that allows these OMG moments later on in the storyline。While parts were tough for me to swallow anxiety-wise， there are redeeming qualities to the romance of Danny and Rose。 While being witness to their chaos， they are also both lost innocents， products of their disturbing childhoods， yearning to break free to a more "normal" violence free existence。Excitement and surprising moments are never more than a page away in this story from Malpas。 5 ***** angel-faced assassin stars for a plot I never saw coming from JEM。-Author Kristin Kent 。。。more

Not quite sure what to make of this book。 When I started reading it I liked it and I hoped I would continue liking it， but somehow that just did not happen。 I even liked the dark and twisted parts at first， but with time they became too cliche and just served no point， at least that is how I perceived it。 Too bad， I feel like this book had much more potential， but then it just went into the classic cliche mode。

This read was overall was pretty decent ☺️ but I will say I love how both the hero and heroine connect with each over through their traumas and dark past that has caused them to be closed off， almost robotic because their emotions are now numb and they are scared of opening the wound of Love and comfort as they don’t want to experience that heartbreak again。 But then。。。。 they met EACHOTHER！！
